A lot is happening here in Kanb.
I'm just a little dog but gosh burk'barkinging heck - a lot is happening here. I have a NEW doggie friend, Frankenstein so grr grrumble and play! Our beautiful garden ( how I like to dig in the compost) is growing up again and we dogs can't wait to see new guests ...Look at this silly photo of a dog stayed with us over Christmas.

I LOVE this time of year when the enviable GREYHOUNDS will soon arrive for our x-tra special dog-guaranteed GREYHOUND GATHERING Event. Sure wish they would let me into the big Costume Parade but even with stilts I don't qualify - huff from this Snuffie-dog, I have plenty of grey-chin hairs now!
It's very exciting, Doggie just got her nails trimmed today so she's ready to go if anyone dares ask her to race against a GREYHOUND in the Blur of Fur. So many events that weekend, so exciting but Doggie barely fits above the elbow of an elegant Grey!! But we all love them & how exciting - a Dog Fest!! I can learn to ROOOO!!! like a Greyhound!

This is a challenge I need to solve. There are costume contests all over Kanab this week and Doggie doesn't know what to do. This dog already stole my Michael Jackson idea, bet I can dance better than he can! There are costume contests at the Coral Pink Sand Dunes (could I be a rare Coral Pink Sand Dune Beetle - no, I'm not that small). There are contests at the Haunted Swamp (could I be a Creature From the Black Lagoon? At last I'm black...). There are costume contests at the Mesozoic Classic Rock Band Concert (could I go as a Guitar? Sounds too complicated but ~ the concert? Be There or Beware ~ I'll be barking along to "Frankenstein" and other great hits).
The greatest challenge will be from the Costumed Dogs at Best Friends -- well, brrrk! Those dogs are dressing up and handing out candies to all the kids who come visit & I wasn't invited. Now, I HAVE to find a costume to welcome our kids in. And, No, I will not do a Todo from The Wizard of Oz costume -- I wouldn't need a costume for that at all! Maybe, a flying squirrel...or a bat...Dog sighes.

Is my beard getting grey? Oh, brrrk, Doggie about to have her 10th Birthday. Doesn't matter, Doggie still gets up every morning at crack of dawn and is waiting to greet you everyone guests. Welcome to our Home! We won't see you for awhile, Master & Mrs are re-building our home soon so I'll have my own special Doggie Door. Until then, and in the Spring Again - I'll show you the Best of the West, especially my K'Hill Trail and other great hikes...Woofff!! Stay in touch, we look forward to lovin'ya!

Doggie needs to tell you how seriously I take my responsibilities. Every morning I rush out into our splendid garden (eat my breakfast with carrots - good treats), and hurry to the window of the Guest Room. Woof, it is my duty to wake guests and get them off their pillows to find me in their window! All is sunshine and happiness when a smart dog is waiting to tell you how wonderful you are, and how much I want you to have a good day!

I used to be afraid of cameras, and people. Now I love 'em all! Mistress says guests from over 30 countries have photographed me - in their guest room window! Doesn't it make a little puppy mill dog proud!!

Thank-you Emilie, for this photo. I loved kissing your face and will do my best Shake & Twist when we play today!

Doggie needs to explain how important it is to be a good Canine Hostess at a Bed & Breakfast.
No. 1: Every guest needs to be warmly greeted at the door with lots of tail wags and super enthusiasm.
No. 2: Everyone must immediately fall in love with me, I'm adding to my international Fan Club.
No. 3: If the guest is travelling with a dog, I must show that dog my big yard and play with them. Chase, roll and tumble! I never argue over toys, there is too much to share here!
No. 4: Doggie will appear in the guest window each morning and show-off (Grr, brrk, I like to be the Dog Alarm Clock with lots of fun to share)
No. 5: Doggie is willing to accompany guests who want to go hiking, 'specially with our friend Nick from Seldom Seen Adventures --- we can find the best Slot Canyons ever!! We like adventures & Doggie will show you how to Climb Big Red Rock;
DIRECTIONS: Jump ! - tail back like a flag! - grab rock with all 4 paws or at least 3 ! - scramble and push up to the sky!
Easy, whow. Just watch me.

Finally, 'cause this is a long list of responsibilities ~ Doggie wants every guest here to be happy and I'll lick a face and warm a lap so that happens!

Yip'yay ~ Here come the Greys!! My buddies, the Skinny Hounds will Abound ~~ in costumes? The GREYHOUND GANG are having a 3-day GREYHOUNDS GALORE here in Kanab, UTah from May 9 - 11. Beautiful long-legged hounds from all over are going to strut and prance down our street with that song "Who Let the Dogs Out" playing. If a greyhound can dress up as a poodle, why can't I dress up as a greyhound...hey, Lady Mistress, find me some stilts for the day! Then comes the "Blur of Fur" race, they get to chase their humans & get clocked with radar guns. Well, Bark again! I've chased Cisco & Smoky Joe in play, I just have to move my legs ten times as fast. Pant, pant. Can't wait for the Canine Carnival - with booths like Paw-ticures, Paw-Casso, Age & Weight Guessing, Greyhounds Got Talent (they aren't the only ones....), Madame Greytsight and more. What?? All this just for the hounds? What about a terrier?

Butterflies and little lizards! Doggie and Mistress go for a long hike in Pugh Canyon. Mistress is happy to see the Cottonwood trees budding. Doggie doesn't look up that far but likes the smelly sage and vetch beginning to bloom around her nose. Sneezes! Little long-tailed lizards scurry left and right keeping Doggie busy, I can find them under sagebrush, leap and pounce - I am Cairn Terrier - the Terror Terrier! - and the Best at finding little treasures that scurry!
But what does Doggie do with them then? That is a philosophical question. I am not Cat, I do not want to pounce and snatch. Doggie will run and bounce then run back to Mistress or chase a butterfly that stays safely above Doggie's acrobatics.

Doggie has learned to float in the air jumping across rocks and ouch, not land on thorny cactus again. Doggie is a true Desert Dog now. Jumping across big rocks is wonderful and tricky, Doggie is so proud! We are adventure hikers but Doggie knows that Desert has some naughty things Doggie needs to avoid. Like those rattly snakes who coil and Mistress warns zap? And, I know, those sharp-pinned cactus and thorn-like tumbly weeds. Uh'oh, life is about remaining conscious and aware and - doing the happiness dance!

I just found Snuffle's personal dog diary - Oops, sorry for snooping Snuffie! Do people not think animals keep track of their experiences like we do? If you doubt ~ just read as the amazing Snuff reveals herself. Anyone who has met her won't doubt this in the least.

An Almost Daily Journal & A Story on the Most Important Things in Life

Day One:
The day is best begun in meditation lying on my mistress’ chest and licking her face to clean up any messy dreams before we meditate together. It is good to have the Zen cats lying by our side, their alpha purrs (“hhmmmmmm”) are god whispers we all are lifted by.

I can be a cat, they can be a terrier. We can all be one when we meditate together.

Day Two:
Elevation is important to lofty thought. When we hike the red rock mesa my mind clears and my paws float. I seek the enriching fragrance of pinion juniper and embrace (ouch) the sage-witch tumbleweed. As we surmount rocks and climb to the horizon my mind is freed of all daily dog tired thoughts and clears to meet the blue sky as it touches the high red rock. Snakes do not scare me and I float, gladly jumping from one rock pinnacle to the next. I am body and I am mind & spirit all at once and that is good. May you all experience this happiness!

Day Three:
Doggie is learning so much, what are these Sixteen Bodhisattva Precepts? I like the "A disciple of Buddha does not kill" - I saw almost all my doggie friends burned to death in our puppy mill building while we doggies left outside in hot metal cages screamed for help. This new doggie Buddha needs to repeat the Metta Sutta on lovingkindness and looks for a kinder new world.

Day Four:
The weather is changing and our meditation this morning is on clouds and sunshine. Sunshine does not come every day and the clouds reflect an attitude of mind. You read your beliefs in the way you interpret your clouds. That is very profound and we need to meditate again for guidance on what that means & share with the Lady Mistress. Doggie knows that brightness is behind every cloud even if Life is 1000 Sorrows and 1000 Joys. Doggie believes that every leaf flying in the wind needs to be chased, it may hold a secret. That profundity Doggie understands & oblidges.

Bonjour, Je m’appelle la petit chien SNUFFLES. I don’t speak French well but I can sure SNUFF and lick and love you!! I’m the little Terror of a Terrier Who Loves Our Guests Here at Savage Point Bed & Breakfast. WOOF! My Mistress and our Guests say I should have my own Blog and even introduce the other doggies our visitors bring or miss so here it is.
I’m just a little rescue dog, my Mistress saved me from a puppy mill but I sure love life here in the South West so please be patient and listen to what a little dog has to say about being…a dog.
Mistress says I have to share this article written by our dear friend Sandy Miller before I go into my stuff so here it is:
“Wide open spaces and dancing leaves"
Her days are filled with walks along the trails of southern Utah’s picturesque red-rock country. She loves chasing leaves dancing in the wind and running free with the greyhounds on a friend’s large property. At night, she snuggles up with Ziplock, one of the cats Best Friends Animal Society rescued from a hoarding situation in Pahrump, Nevada.
Snuffles, one of 179 dogs Best Friends helped rescue last fall from a commercial breeding operation in Virginia, is living the good life these days. Oh, how far she has come.
She does bear a striking resemblance to Toto, the little dog who accompanied Dorothy down the Yellow Brick Road in the classic film “The Wizard of Oz.” But one could argue that this little cairn terrier has faced even scarier things in her time than wicked witches, apple-throwing trees and flying green monkeys.
Snuffles spent the first few years of her life in a cage in a Virginia puppy mill churning out litter after litter of puppies to be sold for profit. In October, that joyless life came to an end when Best Friends Animal Society and other groups rescued her and 178 other dogs from the Virginia commercial breeding operation. The dogs were taken to Pets Alive, a sanctuary in New York that Best Friends had stepped in to help when the owner fell on hard times.
Laurel Anderson, Best Friends’ video producer, traveled out to Pets Alive to film the dogs for the Best Friends website. She’ll never forget the first time she saw Snuffles.
“I noticed one very woebegone little dog all alone in her run,” Laurel says. “The other dogs were two to six in each of the runs, but she was so dreadfully wheezy they quarantined her. She looked so frightened and miserable, it broke my heart.”
Snuffles was one of about a dozen dogs immediately brought back to Best Friends for special care for their health and emotional problems. Laurel stopped by the clinic to take a peek at Snuffles. That peek turned into a little walk, which turned into an overnight visit to Laurel’s home for Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving turned into forever. And there’s nothing more healing than a loving, forever home.
“She’s come so far that people do a double-take when they see her,” Laurel says. “She’s happier, healthier, bolder, athletic.”
But Snuffles still bears some physical and emotional scars from spending her first few years in a puppy mill. She still “snuffles” because of a chronic respiratory ailment, though she is now receiving the best of veterinary care. She’s terrified of running water, which Laurel believes is due to having her kennel hosed down by her puppy mill owners.
Today, life is good – for both Snuffles and Laurel.
“She is my dear little friend and fits into my life,” Laurel says. “Her incorrigible, happy humor, her playful sweetness and kisses, the way she rolls over for a belly rub when I greet her in the morning, all make me happy. She warms my heart.”
